Achilles Tendon Ruptures Treatment
Achilles ruptures typically includes patients in the 40s-50s who are weekend warriors. Often, they will hear a ‘pop’ in the back of the ankle near the Achilles. X-rays are taken, which may show an obliteration of Kager’s triangle. An MRI will further show the exact centimeters that are torn between the 2 ends of the Achilles tendon.
An ultrasound can further show tendon damage. Treatment is surgical, which usually involves approximating the ends of the Achilles tendon. Treatment also includes physical therapy at the 4-6 week mark to gain strength back into the tendon.
